This role provides general secretarial support to the clinical staff in general practice, such as GPs and Nurses. You may work for a senior member of staff – or staff group – and support the work of the department by completing admin and secretarial tasks. You may also have direct contact with patients and their families in addition to the wider practice workforce.
Your role may involve:
- Dealing with patient queries
- Typing and sending letters, reports and referrals
- Generating reports
- Liaising with other members of the healthcare team
You might be suited to a Medical Secretary role if you are:
- Organised and methodical
- Good at working in a team and with the public
- Willing to take responsibility for a number of duties
- Able to work to deadlines
- Comfortable using a range of medical terminology
Entry requirements and skills:
No set formal qualifications are required, but you will need to demonstrate:
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- Strong IT skills, and/or relevant work experience
