General Practice Nurses (GPN) work in GP surgeries as part of the primary healthcare team and may have direct supervision of healthcare assistants at the practice.
Nurses play a key part in delivering care within their communities alongside other members of a multidisciplinary general practice team. GPNs will assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate treatment programmes for patients, which may include:
- Managing and treating long-term conditions
- Managing treatment of minor and complex wounds
- Family planning and cervical cytology consultations
- Vaccination and immunisation including patients travelling abroad
Entry requirements:
- A degree or diploma in nursing
- Current Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration
- Experience on a Fundamentals of General Practice Nursing course or equivalent
