Physician Associate

This role provides support to doctors in the management of patients. Working under the supervision of a doctor.

Physician Associates are trained to:

  • Take medical histories
  • Perform examinations and diagnose illnesses
  • Analyse test results
  • Develop management plans

Entry requirements:

  • Bioscience-related first degree required to join the training programme (although an undergraduate course is currently under development)
  • 2 year postgraduate course
  • Registered healthcare professionals (nurses, midwives etc) can also apply for this role

Training focuses principally on general adult medicine, rather than speciality care. This does not lead to becoming a GP, but can lead to further specialisation, management, research or teaching careers.
