Targeted Enhanced Recruitment Scheme

There’s never been a better time to come to train and work as a GP in Essex…

You may already be aware of the Targeted Enhanced Recruitment Scheme (TERS), a collaboration between NHS England, Health Education England, Royal College of General Practitioners and the British Medical Association.

The scheme seeks to provide support to areas of the country that have had difficulty recruiting doctors for whatever reason within the last three years, providing joint funding in order to incentivise candidates. The initiative offers a one-off payment of £20,000 to GP trainees who are prepared to commit to working within roles in those ‘less popular’ geographical areas.

The scheme, and the encouraging effect of its funding, intends to reduce the pressure on practices who have experienced difficulties in recruitment and in doing so, improves the level of patient care within those regions.

There are currently 18 TERS posts within the East of England, for placements commencing in August 2019, including 6 within the Colchester & Ipswich training programme. You can find out more about the Scheme on the Targeted Enhanced Recruitment Scheme in England FAQs for GP Applicants (2019-20).
