About the Speakers

Dr Usman Bello Buhari
I completed my primary medical degree in A.B.U, Zaria in Nigeria in 1989. After qualifying as a GP in 1999, I obtained a diploma in Clinical Dermatology from the Queen Mary Hospital in London 2002. Due to the importance of skin disease in general practice, I decided to take up a post as an associate dermatologist at Basildon Hospital. I was made a fellow of the RCOGP in 2017 for setting up a robust community based CQC certified dermatology clinic in Billericay, Essex. Servitude is my passion.

Asmaa Karim MB ChB, Locum Consultant Dermatologist
Dr Asmaa Karim has over 20 years’ experience as a specialist in Dermatology. Her longest appointment was at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital where she was appointed as Locum Consultant Dermatologist; she worked there for more than 13 years. She has also worked in a number of other units as a Locum consultant including King’s College Hospital Trust, Portsmouth Hospital Trust and Lancashire Hospital Trust. Dr Karim contributed to expanding services at Basildon Hospital where she established the specialty services for both Biologic therapy for Severe Psoriasis, and vulval dermatology. She was the clinical lead for the implementation of NICE guidelines on Biologics in Psoriasis and the main investigator for the Basildon site on the British Association of Dermatologists research register ‘BADBIR’. Her other interests include skin minor surgery and aesthetic skin rejuvenation with Botox and Dermal fillers. Originally from Iraq, Dr Karim graduated from Baghdad Medical College in 1981 and moved to the UK in 1993. Her passion for Dermatology has expanded through self-structured education and training, attendance at numerous major training courses and national and international conferences. Outside of the workplace her hobbies include reading, and crafts work.

Dr Stephanie Lateo MD FRCP, Consultant Dermatologist
I have more than 20 years of experience working in the field of Dermatology and my special interest has been the management of skin cancer and pre-cancerous skin lesions and dermatological surgery. I completed my certification of dermatology specialist training in Newcastle upon Tyne, after having carried out clinical research and held posts in the Dermatology Units of two other leading teaching British hospitals – Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. From 2005–2010 I held a consultant post with Durham and Darlington Acute Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where I was designated lead clinician of the Specialist Skin Cancer MDT (multi-disciplinary team). From 2010–2014 I have held a Consultant post with Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
