The reach of social media in our modern world is undeniable but at times it can be difficult to navigate. There are, however, many benefits for healthcare professionals participating in social networking sites, and social media in the broader sense.
The online community is an effective way of staying up to date about the latest news and research through blog posts, articles and policy updates, engaging with the public and keeping an eye on the media – not to mention the endless chances to network, research useful events and search for employment and further educational opportunities. By linking your accounts with your friends, family and colleagues – and following like-minded professionals and relevant organisations – you can build yourself into a supportive network to keep yourself informed and ultimately ‘open doors’.
When used properly, there are a variety of online tools at your disposal that can positively impact your personal and professional life, but knowing which platforms to use, how to use them appropriately and how to harness their potential in both a social and professional situation can be tricky.
In the video below from our Skills Show & Job Fair in Basildon on 6th March, Dr Rachael Marchant, Portfolio GP and RCGP Representatives discusses the ways she applies social networking platforms to her work life and provides some guidance about appropriate usage.
