Upcoming Post-CCT Fellowship Opportunities in Essex

If you’re a newly qualified GP having recently obtained your CCT (Certification of Completed Training), or are within 5 years of having done so, you may be interested in a fellowship scheme.

Fellowships are 12-month schemes for recently qualified GPs, particularly suited to those who are interesting in pursuing a portfolio career in the future. The schemes help to place GPs into roles that are tailored not only to their individual requirements but also look to address the specific needs of the primary care system on a local level.

Post-CCT Fellowships:

  • Allow GPs to gain experience in general practice whilst providing opportunity to further develop in areas of special interest (including clinical areas such as emergency care, dermatology or palliative care – but also for example leadership or management) and gain further qualifications
  • Provide additional support for NQ GPs (from within their practice and local training hub)
  • Aim to better meet future, and current, local workforce needs
  • Facilitate the development and creation of new pathways of care

A full-time fellowship role typically consists of 2 days clinical work, 2 days of personal development working on additional skills and 1 day of academic study; part-time fellowship options are also available, the structure of which may be developed on a case-by-case basis.

Nadeeja Koralage, GP Leadership and Commissioning Fellow, Health Education East of England
“I was coming to the end of my training and I decided to extend this by a year by undertaking a Leadership Fellowship. So I’m now spending my time in a very flexible role. I’m able to really learn about the bigger picture within the NHS – and that’s something quite unique that general practice has to offer. There’s lots of opportunities like that, where funding is invested into your own development, which is quite special really.”

If you’re an NQ GP or within your first 5 years of qualification and this sounds like an opportunity you’d like to explore, there’s no time like the present to get in touch and express your interest in advance of these new vacancies – or if you simply have any questions about these roles or any other fellowship schemes.
